Thomas Bitter

Thomas Bitter is leading Volvo CE’s global research and development organization, which has made major recent breakthrough advances in innovation – ranging from the first fully electric compact machines, autonomous transport solutions, and fuel cell testing, to the development of connected worksite solutions. He is a member of Volvo CE’s Executive Management Team.

Leveraging his passion for technology and sustainability, Thomas Bitter has a central role in delivering on the Volvo Group’s overall ambition to build sustainable societies with infrastructure solutions that are 100% safe, 100% fossil-free and 100% more productive. His responsibilities also include making reality of the Volvo CE’s commitment to the Science-Based Target initiative, directing its technology roadmaps towards being a net­ zero emissions company by 2040 at the very latest.

A Volvo Group veteran since 1995, Thomas Bitter has held a variety of senior positions around the world, including SVP of Marketing and Product Portfolio, VP Global Marketing, based in Brussels and several leadership roles, based in Asia. Before joining Volvo CE, he was responsible for Product Strategy at Mack Trucks, based in the US, and Product Manager at Renault Trucks, based in France.

Thomas Bitter started his extensive experience holding technical positions at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research), and as a CAD software designer for the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Berlin and an MBA from the Business School of Lyon, France.
